BIS and the Institute of International Finance report that the Project Agorá prototype achieved atomic settlement of wholesale cross-border payments using tokenised central bank reserves and commercial bank deposits, and will advance to real-value testing with the Bank of Canada joining the eight participating central banks.
The project is moving from prototype to real-value transactions and organizers explicitly anticipate 'an enhanced role for the private sector' in the next phase — this is where technical standards for atomic settlement, cross-ledger interoperability, and privacy-preserving compliance (AML/CFT/sanctions) across tokenised reserves and deposits will be defined, giving the Ethereum/DLT community a concrete window to contribute implementation expertise as jurisdictions finalize technical, operational, and contractual requirements.
