The European Central Bank has launched preparatory work to invest part of its own funds in tokenised securities, with settlement in central bank money via Pontes, the Eurosystem's new DLT settlement solution.
This is the ECB acting as an investor and infrastructure operator across the full tokenised-asset lifecycle — trade execution, settlement, systems, portfolio management — feeding directly into the broader Appia blueprint for a tokenised European financial ecosystem. The technical and operational choices made now in Pontes and Appia will set precedents for DLT market infrastructure design across the euro area, and there is an open window for technical engagement as the Eurosystem determines operational details and timing.
Track the Pontes and Appia technical specifications and seek a briefing or working-group channel with the Eurosystem's DLT infrastructure team to promote interoperability with existing enterprise Ethereum/DLT standards.
